Tuomainengården Building

The Kvens were a Finnish-speaking group who wandered northwards to Ruija, the land by the sea, during the 1700s and 1800s. The Vadsø Museum - Ruija Kvenmuseum is responsible for displaying information about the Kven culture. The highlight of the exhibition is Tuomainengården or Viinikkagården, which is a Kven town dwelling from the 1840s consisting of a house, stable, sauna, bakery, shop and smithy, all under the same roof. The sauna and bakery are still in use. Here there is also an exhibition on the Kven people and their lives.
