Kystfortet på Tongane - coastal defence battery

Share

In the autumn of 1940 the German Navy started to build a coastal defence battery at the west point of Rugsundøy. The purpose was to block up the fjord and the seaward approach to Måløy and Nordfjord. Several barracks were fitted with central heating and electric power from an aggregate. After the German capitulation the battery was integrated in the Norwegian coastal artillery as Rugsundøy Fort. In 1950 the battery was shut down. Today one of the cannons and a messroom are left.
