Jomfruland's Old Lighthouse

The oldest lighthouse on Jomfruland was built in 1838. Today the Lighthouse tower has been turned into a museum, with an exhibition of equipment from its long history of service. The Lighthouse Station building contains a permanent art exhibition and a natural history exhibition. Leading from the Lighthouse to various parts of the island are several nature and heritage trails. One of them leads to Tårntjernet where the Norwegian artist Th. Kittelsen found the motif for his painting "Nøkken" ("The Water Sprite").
