The name Nyplassen is used to describe the place where the Grutsæter smelting house once stood. The smelting house was built in 1670 in connection with Løkken Copper Works. A small community grew up around the smelting house, and the workers built small homes, and even a church. A cultural trail begins from the site of the former smelting house, and information boards along the way relate the story of the activities that took place here.
