Kvikne Hotel is in Balholm, where the innkeeping tradition can be dated back to 1752. When the Kvikne family took over in 1877, they began a process of change and development that has continued to this day. After having been remodelled and enlarged several times, the hotel was rebuilt in a Swiss chalet style in 1913, with 200 beds - an enormous number by the standards of the day. Today Kvikne's is a modern hotel, with 365 beds, conference rooms for up to 200 people, and a banqueting hall that can serve 400 guests. Despite the modernization process the hotel has kept its charm, and the old section of the hotel with its long veranda overlooking the Sognefjord. The list of prominent guests who have stayed here includes royalty, presidents, prime ministers, film stars and artists. The hotel boasts many works of art and antiques. The hotel's guests are welcome to ask a member of the Kvikne family to give them a tour detailing the hotel's history. Balestrand is characterized by a rich cultural history, and several artists have their living place here. First and foremost Balestrand is a place where you can enjoy life in magnificent surroundings. Balestrand is a perfect starting point of day trips to The Norwegian Glacier Museum, Sognefjord Aquarium, The Scenic Flåm Railway and Urnes Stave Church.
