Rygnestad Farmstead

Rygnestadtunet dates back to The Middle Ages, and is associated with the legendary hero and fighting giant "Vonde Åsmund Rygnestad" ("Evil Åsmund"). According to legend, Åsmund participated in the Dutch war of liberation in the 1560s. The characteristic Rygnestad storehouse was built about 1590, probably by the same Åsmund, and houses textiles from the 15th and 16th century. "Trihågloptet" was constructed in three storeys, which was very unusual, and the only storehouse of its kind that is left in Setesdal.
