Barony of Rosendal


This unique stately home was built in 1663-1665 by the Danish nobleman Ludvig Rosenkrantz. He had then married Norway's richest heiress Karen Mowat. Rosendal became Norway's only barony in 1678. The house is surrounded by a romantic landscaped park and a Renaissance rose garden. Guided tours in the castle, concerts, theatre, exhibitions, crafts, etc. are offered in season. Home-made bakery is served in the Thee & Coffee-saloon in "Havestuen". Overnight accommodation, breakfast and dinner at the cotter's farm Treo and Rosendal Avlsgård & Fruehus.
