Kvennberget - millstone production

Kvennberget is an ancient and listed industrial site dating back at least to the 15th century, perhaps to The Viking Age. Here we can find partly-shaped millstones, landfills and finished stones. Right up untill 1789, when the "Storofsen" flood devastated the landscape, there was also activity higher up the hillside. The bedrock contains seams of garnet, and high-quality millstones from Kvennberget were valuable. Millstones were also exported to Denmark, the Netherlands and other countries of mid Europe.
