Merdøgaard museum

Merdøgaard is a coastal building complex with captain's residence from 1736, located on the island of Merdø, near Arendal. The building is preserved with its contents as it would have been in about 1800. Merdø was an important staging post on the south coast. It had a pilot station, a customs house, school, shop and post office. Merdø is well worth a visit. There is a good bathing beach and a little cafe close to the museum. The museum is a department of the East-Agder Cultural History Centre.
