Vangssago - Frame Saw

Water-powered vertical-blade saw from 1875. This is a so-called "sash" or frame saw with several blades. Sago is built on a solid granite foundation and has a slate roof. The saw was driven by an undershot waterwheel and timber was pulled up by an overshot waterwheel. The saw was fully operational until the 1930s. In 1997 the saw was moved. The proximity to the Mehlselva river and Steinparken ensures that the saw has a key position in the area's cultural heritage. Running water, the revolving waterwheel and the smell of newly-cut logs provide a special sensory experience.
